Thematic panel on Feminist Political Economy
Call for Papers
The Portuguese Association of Political Economy plans to establish a new Thematic Section on Feminist Political Economy in 2026. As a first step, this working group invites the submission of paper proposals for the creation of a thematic panel dedicated to Feminist Political Economy as part of the 9th Annual Political Economy Meeting.
Feminist Political Economy (FPE)—in its various approaches (social reproduction theory, social provisioning, the sustainability of life framework, etc.)—has developed a critical and interdisciplinary research agenda for over three decades, exposing in multiple ways the centrality of gender-based oppression, in conjunction with other forms of oppression, within social, political, and economic structures. More recently—particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic—there has been a renewed interest in integrating this perspective into the analysis of contemporary capitalist processes. This context has also enabled feminist movements to bring previously marginalised issues (such as care work, the collectivisation of reproductive labour, social provisioning, environmental relationships, etc.) into the public policy agenda.
In dialogue with the general theme of this year’s meeting—Fundamental Rights, Well-being, and Quality of Life, we invite the submission of paper proposals. Potential contribution areas include, among others, the following topics:
The different approaches of Feminist Political Economy
Centrality of gender in social, political, and economic relations and structures;
The dialogue between Political Economy and Ecofeminisms;
Social reproduction;
Sustainability of life;
Care economy;
Feminist perspectives and the history of economic thought;
Intersectionality and feminist political economy: race, class, and colonialism;
Solidarity economy, alternatives, and commons;
Feminist epistemology in economics;
Bodies, sexuality, and reproductive rights;
Global care chains, feminisation, and the international division of labour;
Politics of value and post-capitalist imaginaries.
Papers may address these or other related themes.
We particularly encourage proposals that combine diverse bodies of knowledge, practices, and approaches —whether theoretical, methodological, or empirical —to broaden interdisciplinary dialogue within the field of Feminist Political Economy.
Abstracts, formatted according to the general call for papers, must be submitted via this form by September 30, 2025.
