International Conference

Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra, Amphitheatre III

12 February, from 10 am to 6 pm

The concept of liberalism is as familiar as it is controversial. Born in the mid-eighteenth century, it has since been defined in a variety of ways and used to legitimate different political and economic visions. This conference aims to revisit the history of liberalism, its relationship with the development of the capitalist system and the tensions that have arisen between the two. Our goal is to discuss the different forms assumed by the liberal tradition, but also how they can help us make sense of the current historical situation.

Speakers: Arturo Zoffmann Rodriguez (IHC-UNL), Bernardo Ferro (IEF-UC), Cristiano Gianolla (CES-UC), George Souvlis (IHC-UNL), Jonas Van Vossole (CES-UC), Marcela Uchôa (IEF-UC), Viriato Soromenho-Marques (CFUL-UL)

Admission is free and does not require prior registration
